Today’s song is smooth, soothing singer/songwriter folk from Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins. Lewis released her debut solo album, Rabbit Fur Coat, in Summer of 2007, but she’s no stranger to singing for sold-out crowds as she’s also the lead singer for indie rock band Rilo Kiley. Today’s song, “Rise Up With Fists,” is from the album Rabbit Fur Coat, and has funny, retro music video featuring Sarah Silverman.

Today’s song of the day comes from Icelandic indie rocker Sindri Mar Sigfusson. Formerly with the band Seabear, Sigfusson has recently begun a solo project working under the moniker Sin Fang Bous. Great things seem to be coming out of Iceland these days — both Sigur Ros and Bjork have released albums within the last few years that have become personal favorites — and Sin Fang Bous doesn’t disappoint either with a unique sound that might be compared to Bon Iver or The Shins. Today’s song, “Poi Rot,” comes from the album Clangour (2009).

Metric, a Canadian indie rock band, released their fourth album yesterday, called Fantasies. Singer Emily Haines and guitarist James Shaw both have former ties with another great Canadian indie rock band, Broken Social Scene.

Today’s song of the day, Help I’m Alive, comes in two varieties: The free mp3 download is an acoustic version; while the video shown below is straight from the album. Both versions of the song are well worth checking out — the ebb and flow of the industrial synths in the album version adds interesting layers to the track — however, Emily Haines’ voice sounds so delicate and beautiful accompanied only by a piano and a guitar, that the acoustic version is an easy favorite.

Free song via iTunes this week is Cage The Elephant’s bluesy-rock number, Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked. Anyone else think frontman Matt Shultz sounds a bit like Jack White? Click the iTunes banner to the right to download Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked for free.

California based indie rock band Silversun Pickups bring a fresh, modern spin to 90′s grunge. After signing to Dangerbird Records, they released an EP in 2005, called Pikul, which was quickly followed by Carnavas in 2006. Carnavas was met with varying degrees of success, and included radio-friendly hits Melatonin, Well Thought Out Twinkles, and Lazy Eye. Today’s song of the day, Panic Switch, comes from Silversun Pickups’ album Swoon, which drops today. Swoon is available here at a killer one-day price of only $3.99.
